The Rick Strike trained by Eric R. Reed, Jockeyed trained by Sonny Leon, won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday marking Reed’s first career win and winning massive prize money.

The 148th Kentucky Derby was held at Churchill Downs with a total purse of $3 Million. For the last 4 consecutive years, the total purse has remained the same. The winner Reed’s share was 60% of the total purse of $1.86 Million. 

While the four runners-up shared money as $600,000, 300,000, $150,000, $90,000 respectively. However, not all money will be taken by the winner, some share is given to the Jockey, team, and taxes.

While Rich Strike was the winner, Epicenter came second, Zandon scored the third spot, and Simplification claimed the fourth spot. This year, the Kentucky Derby witnessed one of history’s biggest upsets when Rich Strike entered at 80-1 odds, epicenter entered with 4-1 odds, Zandon with 6-1, and Simplification with 35-1. 

No one believed, Sunny Leon who entered the race yesterday will become the winner, but they took Kentucky Derby by storm.
