World Cup winner former Indian captain Kapil Dev has questioned the commitment of Indian players to the national team. Kapil believes that the players are looking forward to playing in the IPL despite minor injuries, but they are happy to be left out when it comes to the national team.
In recent years, the India team has suffered greatly due to injuries to key players at major events. Kapil questioned the condition of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of the Indian team for almost a year, saying that if Bumrah is not fit before the World Cup, it will be a big blow as BCCI wasted a lot of time waiting for him.
“What happened to Bumrah? He started very confident, but if he’s not there (in the World Cup semi-final/final)…we just wasted time on him. Rishabh Pant… Great cricketer. If only he had been there, our test cricket would have been better,” Kapil said in a recent interview.
What to know more?
Therefore, Kapil Dev further said that if a player suffers a minor injury, he would prefer to stay out of the national team, but he would prefer to play in the IPL with a similar injury.
“God is merciful; it’s not like other players, or I’ve never been hurt. But now, the team is playing 10 months a year. No doubt, give him the benefit, but everyone has to take care of themselves. IPL is a very good thing, but IPL can also ruin it. Because of a few injuries and you will be playing in the IPL. If you get a little injured, you won’t be able to play for India. You will take a break. I’m very open about it.”
Kapil Dev Criticise BCCI Too!
Kapil Dev also criticized the BCCI for their mismanagement of the players and suggested that the board should have an idea of how much cricket they should be playing.
“If you have a minor injury, you will play in the IPL if it is a big match. At this stage, the cricket board must understand how much cricket to play. That’s the bottom line. Today, if you have both resources and money but don’t have a three or five-year calendar. Something is wrong with the cricket board,” he added.
