Cricket icon Kapil Dev believes that when Indian parents place additional attention on sports, the nation would create more winners throughout all sports. According to Kapil, the attitude of Indian parents toward sports has shifted significantly over the past. But something has to be undertaken.
Kapil Dev encourages parents to give more emphasis on sports
Kapil opened up about it shortly after the Indian men’s badminton team won the Thomas Cup for the first time on Sunday. “I believe it is the parents, not the children.” Our country produces more physicians, scientists. And engineers because their parents want them to. We shall generate all champions the day parents desire their child to be a sportsperson,” Kapil stated on Tuesday.
He was referring to a query from PTI on the developments he has seen in Indian sports over the decades that have propelled the nation’s athletes to flourish on the world stage. Kapil was the honor guest at a special event organize by the Consulate General of India in New York as part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. This was a celebration to mark India’s 75th anniversary of independence. Members of the Indian diaspora and cricket aficionados attended the occasion.
Kapil, regarded as one of the finest all-rounders of all time, gave an example, saying that if his daughter had to take the 10th-grade exam, while still playing for Junior India. he would advise her to “go and read.”
“However, in many foreign vountries, people will tell you to skip this year. And represent junior for your nation, and take the exam the following year.” “That mentality process in our nation hasn’t altered yet,” added Kapil.
“However, things are changing. That’s why I claimed that in our society, parents are more essential than children.” Kapil recalled hiding his sports equipment in his backpack as a child. and secretly going out to play, a situation that has altered dramatically with parents encouraging their children to participate in sports.
