Kalvin Phillips joins Manchester City 

Manchester City officially confirmed that they have acquired England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United on the  six-year contract. The financial terms of the agreement were not released, although British news outlets mentioned  that the 26-year-old player was acquired in a deal for 45 million pounds ($54.53 million) in addition to add-ons.

Phillips entered the Leeds academy when he was 14 years old and made his professional debut in the 2014-15 season. He scored 14 goals in almost 200 appearances for Leeds. Since his debut in 2020, the midfielder has won 23 caps for England. He also played at last year’s European Championships, when coach Gareth Southgate’s squad lost in a penalty shootout to Italy.

After the arrivals of attacker Erling Haaland and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega during the close season window, he is City’s third acquisition. Following the departure of midfielder Fernandinho, Phillips will reinforce City’s midfield as manager Pep Guardiola aims to recruit crucial players in their attempt to retain the league championship. And extend their campaign for Champions League success.
