Kaif Disses KL Rahul Indirectly While Lauding Suryakumar Yadav: In the first game of the three-match T20I series, which took place on Wednesday (September 28) in Thiruvananthapuram, India beat South Africa.
In a tricky chase of 107 runs on a pitch that helped the bowlers a lot, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli couldn’t get going. Finally, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav each scored a half-century to get India to the finish line.
Fans were very critical of KL Rahul’s slow hitting, but Suryakumar was praised for getting to fifty in just 33 deliveries.
Suryakumar got his runs at a strike rate of over 150, while KL Rahul couldn’t even get one run per ball.
Criticism for KL
Fans have criticized Rahul a lot on social media for focusing on getting his own runs instead of what the team needs.
Even in the Indian Premier League, KL Rahul won the Orange Cap (for most runs scored in a season) in 2020 and has been his team’s top run-scorer in many seasons, but he has never won a single title.
Mohammad Kaif’s take
Mohammad Kaif, a former Indian batter, took to Twitter last week to criticize KL Rahul in a roundabout way while praising Suryakymar Yadav.
“Top class pacers or spinners, turning or seaming pitches, difficult match situation – nothing bothers Surya. He might not win orange cap, MoM but he will win you matches. No.4 pe rumal daal diya Surya ne, he’s not moving for a long time. @surya_14kumar,” Kaif wrote in his tweet.
The day before Kaif’s comment, both Suryakumar and KL Rahul hit the 50s to help India beat South Africa easily.
In a bilateral series, an innings like that won’t hurt the team. However, when the Men in Blue go to Australia for the T20 World Cup, an innings like that could cost Team India a spot in the semifinals since the net run rate is a very important factor in a tournament with more than two teams.
