The Football Association has charged Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, after receiving a red card during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp charged with unprofessional conduct by FA after red card against Manchester City
Until Friday, Klopp has the opportunity to react to the allegation of improper behaviour. After becoming enraged that assistant referee Gary Beswick failed to call a foul on Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory at Anfield, the manager was dismissed from the game.
After the game, Klopp said it was “about emotion” and accepted responsibility for the dismissal, admitting he “went over the top” but feeling he had not offended the referee.
Prior to West Ham’s Wednesday night visit and the FA investigation, Klopp stated that he anticipated leading his team at Anfield before acknowledging that he should have handled the situation better.
“Since nothing significant has occurred yet, I believe I will be there tomorrow. A few hours before the game tomorrow, I don’t believe anything will happen,” remarked Klopp.
“I believe that I should have handled the matter differently than I usually do. The managers on both sides didn’t comprehend many of the decisions made throughout the highly stressful game. I hope it makes sense when I remark in German that “with one drop the bucket overflows.” Although I’m not pleased with how I responded, everyone could see it. I received a red card, so there is the scenario. I presume we will now wait for the process.
We don’t have to be best friends, but I’m sure everyone wants to be with us, Klopp stated in response to the consequences from their violent match with City. It’s just regular rivalry. Here, the question was asked, and once I responded, the rest developed from there.
“I said I respected what they were doing, but some people felt my response was still inappropriate. Tossing a coin by a man is a grave error. It was a fantastic performance against a very good opposition. I witnessed events in a football game that I didn’t want to see.
