The 8th of July 2022 was considered humungous for Jordan and his caddie, Sam Matton. He hit a 6-iron into the hole on the 193-yard. He made a hole-in-one at the par-3 17th as a part of second-round 69 at the Renaissance Club.
His tee shot landed 30 feet right of the hole location. It raced up a slope, went across the crest, and back down the swale falling into the hole. It was the first hole at the Renaissance Club in the entire week.
It helped Smith to get in contention at the Genesis Scottish Open.
The performance of Jordan Smith was colossal, and he was awarded Genesis Electrified GV70, a luxury midsize SUV, while his caddie, Matton won a Genesis GV60, an electric crossover vehicle.
“We’ve been chatting about it during the week saying that pin over there could be a good chance for a hole-in-one. Just happened today,” Smith said. “Hit 6-iron and the wind was howling off the right. Anything right of the pin would catch the slope and lucky enough that it did. Even though we couldn’t see it, the crowd went nuts.”
“He’s a big part of that hole, so it’s great that they have managed to support caddies for that as well,” Smith said.
Matton is Smith’s best friend since growing up in Wiltshire, England – a place best known as the home of Stonehenge. He was an usher in Jordan’s wedding as well.
Smith won at the DP Tour – 2017 Porsche European Open. The 29-year-old was also a member of Great Britain and Ireland’s 2013 team for the Walker Cup. He is ranked 13th on the DP World Tour 2022 owing to two runner-up finishes and is ranked 122nd in the World Rankings.
