Joe Root promises to continue playing reverse ramp despite oppositional views. Joe Root, the star batsman for England, has said that he will continue to play the reverse scoop even if it divides opinion. The home summer of 2022 and 2023 saw the Yorkshire batter utilize the reverse ramp to great advantage.
But against Jasprit Bumrah in the third Test match against India in Rajkot, it backfired, leading to his dismissal at a critical moment. Joe Root faced criticism after England gave up a 126-run lead. The 33-year-old admitted to Sky Sports that he is the expert in his field and that he occasionally makes mistakes with the reverse ramp:
“People’s perspectives on how I’ve overcome this series and what’s best for me will differ. I’ll keep playing the way I believe works best in each particular circumstance. Nobody is as familiar with my game as I am. I’ve always strived to constantly try to get better, progress, and evolve, which is how I ended up where I am.
That must continue to take place. In this game, with so much information and analysis available, you will be discovered if you remain still. It’s not going to be perfect every time. I’m going to occasionally make mistakes.”
The 33-year-old’s trip to India was forgettable until the fourth Test in Ranchi. On the first day, he saved the visitors from a dire scenario by hitting an undefeated 122 as the right-hander restrained his aggressive approach. Root continued by expressing his disappointment at not being able to contribute as much as he would have liked to over the first three Tests. The former skipper believed that someone needed to bed in for the match after scoring a century in Ranchi.
