The former England captain became the third cricketer in history to accomplish this feat. During the current second Test against Pakistan in Multan, he accomplished the feat.
Joseph Edward Root, MBE, an English international cricketer who was born on December 30, 1990, currently plays for the England Test and One Day International (ODI) teams and previously served as captain of the Test team. He also plays English domestic cricket for Yorkshire.
Root played for the England T20I team from 2012 to 2019, making his Test and ODI debuts in 2012 and 2013. He was named both the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year and the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World for 2021.
In June 2022, he became the second batsman for England and the fourteenth overall to score 10,000 Test runs when he dismissed Faheem Ashraf in the 70th over of Pakistan’s second innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Root holds the records for the most Test matches (64), wins (27), and losses (26) as England captain. On the Faheem attempted to push at the off-spinner’s tossed-up delivery. Zak Crawley was able to catch the ball easily at slips because it turned very little to take the batter’s edge.
In the longest format, Root, along with South African legend Jacques Kallis and former Australian skipper Steve Waugh, has scored 10,000 runs and taken 50 wickets.
Root has taken 50 wickets and 10629 runs in Tests to date. Kallis leads the list with 13289 runs and 292 wickets, while Waugh has 10927 runs and 92 wickets.
England almost win the series
After winning the first Test in Rawalpindi by 74 runs, the visitors need only three wickets to win the series. The current Test is in Multan. England needs only three wickets to win the series. On the other hand, Agha Salman and Abrar Ahmed will be in the middle at Lunch on Day 4 for Pakistan, who require 64 more runs to win the series.
Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Nawaz put in a lot of effort earlier in the day to frustrate the English bowlers by scoring runs on them. For the spinners, nothing happened either, with Root only taking out Faheem.
England accepted the new ball when it was free however runs were difficult to stop. Mark Wood eventually received the ball from Ben Stokes, who employed a short-pitch strategy that paid off for the tourists. As the host’s reel at 291/7, Nawaz and Shakeel both took leg catches.
Stokes and co. will be in control of the momentum as they attempt to overtake Pakistan and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
