The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) left aside long jumper Jeswin Aldrin from of the World Championships roster just weeks when he was overlooked for the Commonwealth Games. AFI, which released the roster of 22 participants for the event in only two weeks in Oregon, USA, cited a “ankle twist” and a decline in recent form as grounds for leaving Jeswin out.
Jeswin Aldrin, a long jumper, is left out of the World Championships team
Sreeshankar Murali, the national record holder in the long jump, and Muhammed Anees will represent India in the long jump, leaving the third berth vacant. “Jeswin is not present. There is no supervision. He has met the eligibility requirements. Did you watched his most recent three shows? So that’s what it is: 7.82, 7.69, and 7.51. If his productivity is continually declining, the selection panel has concluded that someone should not be chosen. He ran 8.26 metres only once, and his performance has steadily declined after then.
Following unveiling the list on Thursday, AFI president Adille Sumariwalla told reporters, “There is definitely no error there.” When questioned if the federation was aware of what was causing Jeswin’s graph to fall, chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair stated that JSW (Jeswin’s management business) had notified him of an ankle twinge. According to sources close to the athlete, no such communication was made and Jeswin is perfectly fit. Jeswin has a wind-aided jump of 8.37m and a legal jump of 8.26m this season ( second-best in the India season )
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and steeplechaser Avinash Sable will become one of the 22-member group. Rohit Yadav, who recorded four throws of 80 metres or more at an inter-state tournament this week, will be the World Championships’ second javelin thrower.
Amoj Jacob, a 400m runner, has been added to the team pending recovering from injuries. Arokiya Rajiv will take Amoj’s place in the track team if he manages to heal from a grade two hamstring strain experienced in Chennai last month. Aishwarya Mishra, a 400m runner, has also been nominated to the team, but she will have to go through a fitness test with a close finish in front of National Anti-Doping inspectors.
