After being away from the national team for three months, Jasprit Bumrah has been added to India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka. Due to a stress response in his back, Bumrah has been sidelined since September of last year and has since been receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy of the BCCI in Bengaluru.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the national selectors have determined that his recuperation has been successful. He is said to have improved his bowling and training regimen during the last week, which led to his selection to the team. The NCA has certified the pacer as fit after the pacer underwent rehabilitation, according to a statement from the BCCI.
He will soon be a member of the Team India ODI team. ESPNcricinfo had reported that Bumrah was healthy when India’s teams for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka were revealed on December 27. However, the selectors were hesitant to hurry him back due to the manner his back ailment had recurred during the home T20Is against Australia last year.
Bumrah was thus disqualified from the Australia 2022 T20 World Cup, where India lost to England in the semifinals. The BCCI’s performance assessment meeting on Monday is thought to have included discussion of Bumrah’s rehab and recuperation report, which changed the BCCI’s attitude on selection.
Prior to the four-Test series against Australia in February, the team management is allegedly interested in seeing Bumrah regain his full rhythm in a competitive situation. His homecoming coincides with India starting to get ready for the ODI World Cup 2023, which will take place in India this October-November.
In June, immediately following the IPL, India may also participate in the World Test Championship final, depending on how the home Test series against Australia goes. With Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, and seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the mix, India’s pace attack for the series against Sri Lanka is nearly at full strength thanks to Bumrah’s selection in the ODI squad.
After the three-match T20I series, which starts on January 3, India and Sri Lanka play three one-day internationals (ODIs) on January 10, 12 and 15.
