Jaren Walter Jackson Jr. is a professional basketball player from the United States who currently competes for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association. Jackson was born on September 15, 1999. He was a member of the Michigan State Spartans basketball team during his time in college. In the 2018 NBA draft, the Memphis Grizzlies selected him. Achievements
Jackson was regarded as one of the best players in the class of 2017, which he graduated with. In the ESPN 100, he came in at number eight and was rated second in his position and second regionally. Jackson was the target of recruitment efforts from a variety of illustrious schools, including Michigan State, Notre Dame, Butler, Indiana, Purdue, and Maryland, amongst others. On March 29, 2017, he participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game, thanks to an invitation he received.
Contributions to the National Team
Jackson contributed to the United States of America’s under-17 basketball team’s victory of the gold medal at the FIBA 2016 World Championships. During the tournament, Jackson scored two
points and had six rebounds, helping the team to win the title. During the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit, which took place in Portland, Oregon, he was a member of the United States Junior National Select Team that competed there. Jackson finished the game with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds despite coming off the bench and playing just 25 minutes.
In the Beginning Years
On November 10, 2017, Jackson made his debut in college basketball against the North Florida Ospreys. In that game, he scored 13 points and pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds, leading his team to a 98–66 victory. Then, in a game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on February 13, he scored a career-high 27 points and led his team to an easy 87–57 victory.
He was honored as the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year as well as the Freshman of the Year. In addition, he was selected for both the All-Freshman Team and the All-Big Ten Third Team.
Personal Life
Jaren Jackson, a former NBA player, and coach, and Terri Jackson, a former executive director of the WNBPA, are his father and mother, respectively. He was named after his father. During his time at Park Tudor High School, the school’s football team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 3A regional tournament in 2016, and it won back-to-back Indiana state titles in the Class 2A division in 2014 and 2015.
