Jamie Carragher chose Lionel Messi in TOTY because Real Madrid superstar plays in a ‘joke league’
Liverpool great Jamie Carragher sought to put Lionel Messi in his EA Sports FC 24 Team of the Year instead of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, characterizing La Liga as a ‘joke’ league.
Carragher and Gary Neville recently appeared on Sky Sports, where they announced their joint Team of the Year.
They chose Alisson Becker as goalkeeper, followed by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kim Min-Jae, Ruben Dias, and Federico Dimarco to form the defense.
Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Jude Bellingham made up the midfield. While they decided to put Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the attack, they argued on who would play right flank.
Lionel Messi had a fantastic 2022-23 season, scoring 32 goals and assisting 25 times in 55 games in all competitions for PSG and Inter Miami. He won two medals and his ninth Ballon d’Or in October.
On the other side, Vinicius thrived at Real Madrid. Last season, the 23-year-old scored 23 goals and assisted 21 times in 55 appearances.
He’s also off to a strong start this season, with six goals and four assists in 15 games.
“He’s not a bad guy, but I don’t like it” – PSG chairman criticizes Lionel Messi for previous remarks
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the chairman of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), recently chastised Lionel Messi for his disrespectful statements made in September.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner led Argentina to FIFA World Cup victory in December 2022, scoring seven goals and won the Golden Ball along the way.
He scored a stunning brace to help his country upset Kylian Mbappe’s France 4-2 on penalties in the final, after the game finished 3-3 in extra time.
Lionel Messi’s Argentine colleagues were honored at their individual teams, but the 36-year-old was not acknowledged at PSG for his accomplishment. He complained about it in September.
