James Anderson still has enough to provide on the international cricket stage, according to England seamer Chris Woakes. The 34-year-old believes that having a powerhouse like Anderson play for England for 20 years has been a big blessing for them.
In the ongoing Ashes series, the 40-year-old hasn’t been at his best, as seen by the fact that he only claimed 3 victims in the first two Tests. As a result, he was benched for England’s third game at Headingley, where Woakes started.
In an interview with Mirror Sport, Woakes claimed that Anderson consistently proved his critics wrong and that he would not predict how long the medium pacer would play.
Jimmy has been a blessing for us for a very long time, but who knows how much longer we’ll be able to count on him? Jimmy continually disproves the critics, so I have a strong sense he may have a lot more to give,” Woakes remarked.
The fourth Test will be played at Anderson’s home stadium of Old Trafford, and the hosts have decided to keep the seasoned seamer. The Lancashire bowler, though, argued that, even in the absence of a recall, he will be content.
James Anderson is referred to be “one of the greatest ever to grace Test cricket” by Chris Woakes
Woakes further asserted that Anderson’s technique had the support of the entire England team. The seamen from Warwickshire stated.
We have been fortunate that he has been such a master of his profession for 20 years. He may wish to go above 700 Test wickets, but whenever the time comes for him to call it a day – and I’m not making any assumptions that this will be his last game or his last series.
Chris Woakes stated, “In my opinion, he is not only England’s all-time greatest bowler, but also one of the greatest players to ever play Test cricket. “The paying public and TV viewers who watch the super-slow motion replays of how the ball comes out of his hand are in awe of his technique, but so are we in the locker room, and we’re his peers. When other professionals are in awe of what you do, I always feel like you are in the midst of greatness
– At Headingley, England scored one to make the final score 2-1. To save the urn, though, Ben Stokes and company must triumph in the following two games.
