Ja Morant renewed his contract with the grizzlies details of the new contract
Ja Morant renewed his contract with the grizzlies details of the new contract. Ja Morant, a star player for the Grizzlies, has all but committed to re-signing with the team next summer.
The guard informed Joe Vardon of The Athletic that he has no plans to leave the Grizzlies after the 2021-22 season when he will be eligible for a rookie extension.
“Me, I’m not a huge fan of leaving myself,” the 22-year-old revealed/announced.
When pressed for more information, he continued: “In other words, I plan to stick around for as long as I can. Whatever happens, I plan to keep doing what I’ve always done: going out with my teammates, winning games, performing for our fans, and doing everything I can to keep spreading positivity.”
Morant, like many NBA stars, might choose to play as part of a Big Three, such as the ones on the Lakers or Nets. The 2019-20 Rookie of the Year, however, thinks the Grizzlies have enough talent to compete in the Western Conference.
“In my opinion, aptitude was always present.” According to Ja Morant, we just need to put the puzzle together. Our front office and coaching staff deserve the majority of the credit for giving us everything we needed to succeed from the start.
It is unclear whether Morant is correct. It’s tough to see the Grizzlies challenging teams like the Lakers, Suns, Clippers, and Jazz out of the Western Conference playoff picture.
Nonetheless, the Grizzles find strength in Morant, who has quickly become one of the NBA’s most promising young players. On the first night of the 2021-22 season, he led all scorers with 37 points, grabbed six boards, and dished out six assists in a 132-121 triumph over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
More about extension
The Murray State graduate shot 44.9 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from deep while averaging 19.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game.
Morant is in the same elite company as Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks, both of whom signed rookie max extensions worth $207 million per season in August.
This summer, the South Carolina native may sign a rookie maximum extension worth $181 million over five years. Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans and RJ Barrett of the New York Knicks are both candidates for a similar extension.
When you consider that Morant has been the Grizzlies’ leading scorer for the past two years running, it’s not hard to see why Memphis might be willing to shell out big bucks to maintain its franchise cornerstone.
