According to former Indian batsman Deep Dasgupta, elite players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma cannot win the current series in the West Indies.
He clarified that whether they score runs or not, critics and supporters are likely to have a poor impression of their performances.
On Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies in Dominica on Thursday.
Rohit scored his tenth Test century.
He contributed to a 229-run opening partnership with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal (143* off 350), which helped India reach 312/2 at the end of Day 2 of play. He struck 103 off 221 balls.
After losing to Australia in the World Championship (WTC) 2023 championship match and having a patchy previous record, the Indian captain’s performance was much-needed.
Dasgupta commended Rohit for his performance during a chat on ESPNcricinfo while also emphasising the difficulty of the West Indies series for him and Kohli.
These are particularly difficult series for players like Rohit or Virat because, if you win by scoring runs, most people will assume your team was weak and the circumstances were favourable. And if you don’t score runs, God forbid, people would assume you can’t score anywhere. Where would you get points? For individuals like Rohit and Virat, it is a very hard argument to win. Considering everything, it was a fantastic effort,” he said.
Before being bowled by West Indian rookie Alick Athanaze.
Rohit made an excellent knock that included 10 fours and two sixes.

In Test cricket and said that he follows a certain game plan that has proven successful for him.

In his current role as a Test opener, to be fair. His track record as an opener is outstanding. It only requires mental discipline. It’s not complicated if you look at his game plan. In Test cricket, he rarely drives unless the stadium is completely packed. He has a clear strategy, and it has worked well for him. That has paid off, even in challenging environments like England and Australia.
Rohit Sharma has 722 runs at 45.12 average and two hundreds in nine tests played as the opener away from home (including neutral grounds).
