Aakash Chopra thinks Yashasvi Jaiswal a definite for the 2024 T20 World Cup
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has sealed his place in the T20 World Cup squad via his style of play and T20I performances.
Jaiswal had another outstanding effort at the top of the order to help India overcome Afghanistan by six wickets in the second T20I.
The southpaw hit 68 off 34 deliveries, including five boundaries and six maximums, to help the hosts get off to a strong start and eventually take a 2-0 series lead.
Speaking to Jio Cinemas after the game, Chopra claimed that Jaiswal has surpassed Shubman Gill in the pecking order. And is now a definite for the showpiece event in June.
Speaking to Jio Cinemas after the game, Chopra asserted that Jaiswal had eclipsed Shubman Gill in the pecking order and is now a lock for the finale in June.
He also stated that if he is not selected, India would return to the slow-paced tempo. That plagued them in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s all-out onslaught at the top of the order has given the Indian T20I team a much-needed boost. In 16 games, the southpaw has an average of 35.57 and a strikeout rate of 163.81.
His contribution to victory has been astonishing, with the kid averaging nearly 44 in Indian T20I victories and only 3.66 in defeats.

“He will go and show intent the same way in the T20 World Cup” – Suresh Raina on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Former Indian batsman Suresh Raina mirrored Aakash Chopra’s comments, praising Yashasvi Jaiswal’s attacking instincts and fearlessness at the top of the order.
Jaiswal rose to national prominence following an outstanding 2023 IPL season in which he scored 625 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has already thrived on West Indian wickets, making an incredible 171 on Test debut in July last year.
With the T20 World Cup set to take place in the Caribbean and the United States, the 22-year-old might be the perfect boost for Team India at the start of their innings.
Meanwhile, the last Twenty20 International against Afghanistan will be played in Bangalore on Wednesday, January 17.
