David Warner Retirement From ODIs: – The opening batsman claims that he has formally resigned from ODIs to play in the T20 league, but will be available to compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy if needed.
With the end of his Test career, David Warner announced his retirement from ODI cricket. However, he left the door open to playing for Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy if he felt the need.“I am definitely retiring from ODI cricket as well,” David announced at the SCG on Monday. I said during the World Cup that to overcome that and win it in India is, in my opinion, tremendous. Is an achievement.”I will decide today to take a look at the form that I have been in, which will give me a chance to play in other competitions around the world and help the ODI team make some progress.
I am aware of the upcoming Champions Trophy in two years, if I am still around and playing good cricket, if they need anyone I’ll be there.”
David Warner Retirement From ODIs
With a career tally of 6932 runs at an average of 45.30 with 22 centuries, the World Cup final match against India in Ahmedabad was likely to be his last ODI unless he made an unexpected comeback in two years.
He is second in the century list behind Ricky Ponting, who has played 205 more ODI innings than Warner and is Australia’s sixth-highest run-scorer in men’s ODIs.
It was earlier speculated that Warner would skip the three-match ODI series against West Indies next month to start playing ILT20 cricket with Dubai Capitals.
Although he intends to play that format until at least June’s World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States, he is also scheduled to miss T20I matches before then.
He needs to win just one more game to reach 100 career appearances across all formats.
After the ODI World Cup in November, Warner suggested he would continue until 2027, even though he would have been 41 by then.He said that the way the team returned to India made it the perfect place to end things.”It was a decision I was very comfortable with,” he said. “It was pretty incredible to win in India from our current position.
“Our relationship became even stronger after we lost two games in a row in India, and we didn’t get where we were by accident or chance. The Kolkata semi-final also didn’t go unnoticed by Maxi [Glenn Maxwell]’s brave actions should go.” The leadership, the talent, and the execution of our game against India.”
