Ishan Kishan, an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, had a standout ODI series against the West Indies, scoring half century in each of the three matches. In the first game in Barbados, he made 52 off of 46, and in the second ODI there, in a match that his team lost, he made a run-a-ball 55.
In the series finale on Tuesday at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, Kishan continued to dominate, smashing 77 off 64 balls. India scored 351/5 and won the match by 200 runs thanks to the left-handed batter’s eight fours and three sixes.
By scoring a half-century in every game of a three-game bilateral series after his knock in the third ODI, Kishan became just the sixth Indian hitter to do so. Before him, only Kris Srikkanth (1982), Dilip Vengsarkar (1985), Mohammad Azharuddin (1993), MS Dhoni (2019), and Shreyas Iyer (2020) were players to accomplish the feat.
Additionally, India’s 200-run victory margin in the third ODI is the largest in West Indies and the second-largest margin of victory over West Indies overall. Overall, India’s largest ODI victory over the Windies in terms of runs was their 224-run victory in Mumbai in 2018.
With a score of 351/5, India has now also achieved their best ODI total without a single hundred. The highest total in India’s innings was 85, scored by Shubman Gill. In this aspect, their previous high was 350/6 against Sri Lanka in Nagpur in 2005.
The Men in Blue extended the record for most consecutive bilateral ODI series wins against a team with their 2-1 victory against West Indies, giving them their 13th straight victory against the opposition. Pakistan is ranked second on the list (11 vs. Zimbabwe).
Team India’s acting captain Pandya said, “It’s a special win” ODI series
Stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya reflected on India’s victory over West Indies in the ODI series and said he was looking forward to new challenges.
It’s a unique victory. Since there is something at stake, I must admit that as a captain, I eagerly anticipate these kind of games. It wasn’t just a match between nations. We were aware of the importance of the situation and the disappointment that would follow a defeat. The guys had excellent character. They also found enjoyment in it, which is crucial when under pressure. Without being able to handle pressure, you can’t become a hero, he stated following the game.
From August 3 to August 13, West Indies will now play India in five Twenty20 Internationals.
