In April, the Baltimore Ravens made a surprise move when they signed a massive one-year deal with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. worth up to $18 million. Recently, the talented wide receiver revealed that the Ravens managed to snap him out of retirement thoughts with that massive contract.
Speaking in an interview, Odell Beckham Jr. revealed that he was considering retiring from the sport after winning the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season.
“It wasn’t like he felt like he had to prove anything to somebody else,” Beckham said. “I know who I am. I know what I’m capable of. And I have confidence in myself and in life. But it’s more about my people, about inspiring my son. If he sees his father working hard, he might want to work hard at something and try his hand at anything.”
Odell Beckham Jr ready for retirement!
However, in 2022, after taking a year off to recover from an ACL injury suffered, Odell is looking to return to football during a Super Bowl game. He received several offers from various teams in free agency, but none came close to the whopping $18 million deal the Ravens offered him.
However, the former Pro Bowl pass catcher is considering retiring after the 2023 season, when his contract with the Baltimore-based football team expires. Beckham said: “I think this is my last year.” “I’m going to give it my all this year. And then, if something happens after that, we can continue from there.”
Though the 30-year-old catcher was looking for multi-year contracts, but got none. Moreover, in the 2023 season, he wants to play to his full potential and win a Super Bowl ring to help the Ravens.
Other Updates!
Moreover, a newcomer to the Ravens, Odell Beckham Jr., is the best wide receiver Lamar Jackson has had in his career thus far. OBJ could be a great asset to Jackson and the Ravens next season, regardless of his peak.
As well, the two-time Pro Bowl QB now has an arsenal of offensive weapons. The Ravens’ offensive unit, which includes OBJ, Zay Flowers, and Mark Andrews, will be a logistical nightmare for any team in the league.
With the help of this strong offensive unit, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will look to return to his 2019 form, when he became the second quarterback in league history to win the unanimous MVP award, respectively.
