Dean Ambrose, better known to AEW fans as Jon Moxley, is a former WWE Champion who was also the eccentric leader of The Shield, one of history’s most powerful factions. The Hounds of Justice dominated the locker room for eighteen months following their surprise debut at Survivor Series 2012, destroying acknowledged legends like Kane, John Cena, and Randy Orton.
Seth Rollins, The Architect of the Shield, squared off against Austin Theory in a ferocious promo this past week on WWE RAW. Theory said that Rollins was the “third most successful member of The Shield,” implying that Ambrose and Roman Reigns were better than him.
Rollins was the third most successful member. The Visionary’s success was due to his good fortune, according to Theory.
It is impossible to ignore Dean Ambrose whenever The Shield is mentioned. When The Lunatic Fringe’s contract with WWE expired at the end of April 2019, he immediately switched to AEW, bringing back Jon Moxley and becoming one of the most popular sports entertainment attractions outside of the Stamford-based promotion.
However, a full Shield reunion, which has been on the fans’ wishlist for so long, requires Dean Ambrose’s return. A sensational comeback is unlikely, despite the fact that the former Intercontinental Champion has been mentioned numerous times since his departure.
Jon Moxley signed a contract with AEW in October, so Dean Ambrose’s WWE comeback is unlikely. His current contract will end in 2027, five years from now, so there will be no big Shield reunion anytime soon. This seems like a sensible and understandable choice to Moxley.
The face and top man of Tony Khan’s promotion is the AEW star. Moxley wrestled with the best of the best, from certified legends like Chris Jericho to arrogant upstarts like Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF), to win the World Championship. Outside of WWE, the 37-year-old has made incredible strides; As a result, there is little reason for him to return to the business.
When Vince McMahon left WWE in July, Triple H took over and gave it a dramatic and creative makeover. This sparked rumors that Ambrose might return, but those rumors were quickly put to rest when he signed a new contract with AEW.
Ambrose doesn’t appear eager to return, given the circumstances under which he left. The veteran of AEW made the comment while appearing as a guest on The Store Horsemen podcast that he would rather work in a grocery store than return to WWE.
The former WWE Champion explained his sudden departure in an episode of Talk is Jericho. The written promos that the former Dean Ambrose had to shoot and the lack of creative freedom to show off his aggressive side both bothered the former Dean Ambrose.
Dean Ambrose isn’t even close to returning to WWE at the moment, and a Shield reunion seems almost impossible.
