In recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about what will happen to Cristiano Ronaldo’s career, with some reports saying that he might be ready to retire soon. The 38-year-old, on the other hand, is set to continue defying expectations and appears to be getting ready for a new chapter under Portugal coach Roberto Martinez, who was just appointed.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been given a vote of confidence by the Spaniard as he begins his new era as Selecao manager by selecting Portugal’s record scorer for his first squad. According to Manchester Evening News, Martinez praised the former Real Madrid player and explained why he gave him a call-up ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, saying:
Cristiano Ronaldo is a player with a lot of dedication. He is a key member of the team and can bring experience. Age doesn’t matter to me.”
When he announced his departure from the top European league’s last winter, the famous Portuguese player’s departure sent shockwaves through the football community. He went on to play captain and wear the number seven jersey for Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr after a swift departure from Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been in fine structure for his new club too, scoring nine objectives in only eight association appearances in the Saudi first class.
