DC entered the IPL auction with just five remaining slots and a purse of 19.45 crores. Rilee Rossouw (4.6 crores) and Phil Salt (2.6 crores) were their most significant overseas acquisitions. Their Indian acquisitions were Ishant Sharma, Manish Pandey, and Mukesh Kumar at the auction on December 23 in Kochi.
A look at the DC team for IPL 2023:
Rishabh Pant (captain), David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Ripal Patel, Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dhull, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Khaleel Ahmed, Lungi Ngidi, Mustafizur Rahman.
Delhi has assembled a capable team. In the IPL auction, they selected quality back-ups and kept the majority of their core. In preparation for IPL 2023, we conduct a SWOT analysis of the DC team in this article.
Strengths
The Delhi Capitals’ batting order, which includes David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh/Rilee Rossouw, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, and Rovman Powell, is arguably one of the most dynamic in the IPL.
Shaw is an exciting young talent whose game is naturally aggressive, while Warner is one of the greatest T20 batters of all time. Marsh has a lot of experience and is a good pace hitter. Additionally, Powell had a successful DC season last time around.
Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, a seasoned spin duo from Delhi, are also available. If the Kotla surfaces support spinners throughout the tournament, they could cause havoc during home games.
Weaknesses
Rishabh Pant has had a bad year in the T20 format, both as a batsman and as captain. He neglected to make a critical effect on the public group and was on the seat for most of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He should perform well on the off chance that DC is to bring home their lady IPL championship.
Indian pace bowling talent in Delhi is also not particularly promising. Making room for both Nortje and Rahman will be hard. As a result, Indian fast bowlers will be eligible for two spots in the starting XI, which is something that the opposing teams will undoubtedly aim for.
Opportunities
Despite his success in the IPL, Prithvi Shaw has not been well-liked by the national team. However, in order for the selectors to notice him and give him a longer run in the format, the DC opener needs to have a record-breaking season.
Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw may also have a good chance this season. They may not be selected for the starting XI, but they will be considered in the event that players lose a form or are unavailable during the tournament.
Threats
Rovman Powell is the sixth bowler for the Delhi Capitals, who bat at number 7. Their first-choice playing XI might be less adaptable as a result.
To prevent the relative lack of depth from becoming a major weakness for the franchise, they will have to hope that their specialists, both with the ball and the bat, step up to the plate.
