In a dramatic Indian Premier League match on Sunday, Sunrisers Hyderabad stunned Rajasthan Royals by four wickets with a six off the final delivery that was re-bowled after a no-ball call.
With Samad and Marco Jansen at the crease, SRH needed 17 runs off the final over bowled by Sandeep Sharma to chase a target of 215 runs.
When the drama started, Samad hit a six off the second ball, leaving the score at five runs from the final delivery.
With Jos Buttler taking a catch near the boundary. Everyone thought Samad was out, but the umpire called for a ball and the last ball was bowled again.
SRH needed 69 runs off the final five overs with eight wickets remaining. But number six batter Glenn Phillips contributed to the turnaround with 25 runs off 7 balls.
Phillips enlivened the tall pursuit by hitting three back-to-back sixes and a four off unpracticed pacer Kuldip Yadav in the penultimate over to raise any expectations of staggering success.
Even though it appeared to be a straightforward victory for RR at one point, RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s excellent effort (4/29) was ultimately in vain.
SRH started the run chase cautiously because they didn’t have much firepower in the powerplay overs. In the end, they were 52 for 1, and impact player Anmolpreet Singh was the first one Chahal hit.
Additionally, Ravichandran Ashwin (4-0-35-1) kept things tight, making it difficult for the SRH batters to score boundaries.
Rahul Tripathi defeated Murugan Ashwin by 19 runs with four and two sixes in the subsequent over.
Heinrich Klaasen, who had previously struck a four and a six.
Then caused some trepidation in the RR camp by hitting a six and a four off Chahal in the sixteenth over.
Before falling in the fifth portion of that over after Jos Buttler made a very questionable decision to run out far off.
The Royals reached 214 for 2 earlier thanks to English opener Jos Buttler’s skillful 95 and captain Samson’s unbeaten 66.
After a 54-run first stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal (35), Buttler (95 off 59 balls) and Samson (66 not out) added another 138 runs in 13.3 overs to lead the Royals to a significant total when they elected to bat.
Samson’s 38-ball unbeaten thump was studded with four limits and five sixes. Throughout the innings, the SRH bowlers appeared clueless and were all losing runs.
The talented Jaiswal continued his excellent form this season to reach 1000 IPL runs. Giving the Royals a blistering start that saw them reach 61 for one at the end of the powerplay.
The youngster scored five fours and two maximums off Marco Jansen (4-0-44-1). Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-0-44-1) but was run out in the fifth over by the latter bowler.
A slower off-cutter gave Jansen more bounce, and Jaiswal simply lofted the ball into T Natarajan’s hands.
The rhythm went on as the home side was 107 for 1. At the midway stage with one-down Samson rebuffed the SRH bowlers and scored his initial fifty of every six matches.
When Samson struck three towering sixes off the unlucky bowler in the ninth over. Which resulted in 21 runs, he targeted Mayank Markande for special treatment.
Buttler, who was somewhat peaceful in the early piece of his innings. Started to open up his arms in the wake of settling down pleasantly.
As the SRH bowlers became increasingly clueless about how to break the partnership, the Buttler-Samson duo reached 150 in the 15th over. Keeping the run rate above 10 runs per over at all times.
After establishing a solid foundation, the Royals duo launched into the SRH bowlers and continued to score sixes in each over. In the final five innings, the Royals scored 60 more runs.
In the 16th over, Samson hit two more sixes off Markande. Before scoring his third fifty off 33 balls in the 18th over.
In the penultimate over, Buttler was run out five runs short of a hundred. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was called out after a review.
