Indian Women’s Hockey Team Takes: India’s hockey team celebrated their bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games with a viral video in which they danced to “Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walo”
The Indian women’s hockey team won their bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. They had not won a medal in 16 years. This was the first time that India defeated New Zealand since the semifinals of 2002 and took them to spot-kicks. The side defeated New Zealand 2-1 in the 4th place game to win the bronze medal.
One thing that has won everyone’s hearts is the energetic and lively celebration by the Indian women’s team after winning the bronze medal. The team can be seen celebrating in their dressing room with a viral video of them dancing on “Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walon”
Although the girls could not hide their happiness, they were seen going crazy to the patriotic song. This video went viral and garnered attention from all over the world.
In the bronze medal match, India conceded a penalty corner with less than 30 seconds left to play. It went into shootout after Olivia Merry’s equaliser at the end of regulation time.
In the regulation time (after Salima Tete scored), India took the early lead.
India came into their final without a victory in this World Cup. They had a heartbreaking loss but the intent was to win and finish on the podium. India had a horrendous timing faux pas against Australia during their shootout, leading to their demotion.
On Sunday, the Indian captain and goalkeeper Savita pulled off three spectacular saves to give her team the third bronze medal in the just-concluded CWG. Megan Hull put New Zealand ahead, but an agile Savita denied Rose Tynan, Katie Doar and Olivia Shanon, while Sonika and Navneet scored for India to register a famous victory.
The New Zealand team defended solidly, preventing the much better Indian team from scoring a ton of goals against them.
