According to Rahul Dravid in the first Test of the two-match series, India crushed West Indies in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 12 wickets in a three-day contest as the hosts were easily dismissed in both innings.
Dravid promised that despite their success in Dominica India won’t display any symptoms of complacency at a news conference prior to the second Test at Port of Spain in Trinidad. He stated:
We won’t become complacent, in my opinion. Given that I’ve known them for the past 18 to 20 months, I have enough faith in this team. We would not be impacted by complacency. We recognize that the West Indies will be hurt and eager to recover. Restarting from scratch will be necessary.
When asked if India would consider altering the lineup for the second Test, Dravid responded that the think tank is satisfied with the lineup that was used in the first game. He clarified:
The team we chose for the previous game had us entirely covered. We had a couple of genuine, seasoned, top-notch spinners and three fast bowlers.
We had the option of using three spinners, as we have in the past if we believed the wicket would turn noticeably more. My opinion is that the team we have gives us a great sense of equilibrium and enables us to play in any environment.
The wicket might alter significantly from the one we played on in Dominica, but I don’t anticipate us making many adjustments unless absolutely necessary,” the Indian superstar continued.
In Dominica, debutant opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma both struck hundreds while Ashwin shone with the ball.
“A lovely event to participate in” Dravid during the 100th India-West Indies Test
Since it would be the 100th Test between the two teams
The Trinidad match will be crucial for both India and the West Indies. Dravid praised the historic Test as a memorable occasion and added the following thoughts:
The opportunity to play 100 Test matches between India and the West Indies, two outstanding cricketing nations, is very wonderful. These 100 Test matches have included some outstanding cricket players. As a child, I can remember really idolizing, adoring, and following the achievements of the great West Indian players. A beautiful event to take part in.
