The Indian women in blue defeated host Sri Lanka by 34 runs in the first match of the three-match T20I series. India opt to Bat first after winning the toss and scored 138 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Jemima was the top scorer with 36 runs. Leader of team Harmanpreet Kaur played an innings of 22 runs.
In reply, the host could score only 104 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Kavisha Dilhari made the highest 47 runs. Radha Yadav took two wickets from the Indian side. Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, and Shefali Burma shared 1-1 wickets. The second clash of the series will be played on June 25.
Jemima played till the end
Jemima Rondriks played a very sensible inning after losing four wickets for 58 runs. She smashed 36 runs in 27 balls hitting three fours and a six. She remained unbeaten till the end of the inning. Among other batter contributions, Richa Ghosh helped the team by scoring 11 runs, Pooja Vastkar 14 runs and Deepti Sharma scored 17 runs.
India made a very poor start with the bat their two wickets fell on the score of just 17 runs. Star batter Smriti Mandhana got out after scoring just 1 run. Sabhinene Meghna got out in a duck. Oshadi Ranasinghe from Sri Lanka took both the wickets. Shefali was dismissed after playing well with 31 runs in 31 balls. She smashed four fours in her innings.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur just played the five balls after the Shefali’s dismissal. Harmanpreet succeeds to score 22 runs in 20 balls with the help of three fours.
