India will host the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi in 2023
The world championship for men has never been hosted in India, although the top women’s tournament will take place there for the third time after being held in New Delhi in 2006 and 2018.
Hemanta Kalita, the secretary general of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), have informed PTI that they have the hosting rights of the women’s world championship and now they are planning to arrange a grand event. the event is scheduled to take place in by the end of March and first week of April. More details will be available on the page after official confirmation.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) president, Umar Kremlev, is visiting the country for the first time; during his visit, the dates for the important event will be chosen.
We will meet with the IBA president during his visit to hammer out an agreement, Kalita said, adding that the event’s dates had not yet been determined. The competition will most likely be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The fact that India will be hosting the tournament is a significant step since the International Boxing Association, formerly known as (AIBA), terminated its contract with BFI after Serbia won the right to host the event in 2021 because Serbia failed to pay the host fee.
At the most current women’s tournament in Turkey, Nikhat Zareen took home the gold medal in the flyweight event, giving India a total of three medals.
In a recent statement, Kremlev stated that the winnings amount for the men’s world championship, which will take place in Tashkent in May of next year, will rise by a factor of two over the previous tournament.
