Team India will begin their preparations for the 2023 ICC men’s 50-over World Cup with a three-match one-day international series against Sri Lanka. The first one-day international will be played in Guwahati on Tuesday (January 10), and it will be the first of the series. The game will feature Indian veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who did not participate in the three-match T20I series that India won 2-1 on Saturday.
India will try to win their 10th ODI match at home since the start of 2020. The BCCI selection committee has decided to focus on ODI cricket this year in anticipation of the World Cup. However, the home team suffered a significant setback when Jasprit Bumrah’s return to action was once more postponed before the series could begin.
The BCCI informed us that Bumrah, who has been out with a back injury since September 2022, was expected to return for the ODI series. Nevertheless, the Mumbai Indian pacers’ absence from the ODI series has now been confirmed. Rohit Sharma, India’s skipper, is fully recovered from his finger injury, which occurred in the second one-day international against Bangladesh last month.
His appearance will also cause India concern. The hosts hold a significant historical advantage because they have won 93 of their 162 ODI matches against the Dasun Shanaka-led team. India has lost 57 times to the visitors up until this point.
Rohit Sharma will try to make up for India’s defeat to Bangladesh in the 1-2 ODI series last month and keep India’s winning streak at home going. On January 10, Guwahati will host the inaugural One-Day International.
