After losing the ODI series, Team India scored 278 runs losing 6 wickets on the very first day of the first Test against Bangladesh. India came back strongly in the afternoon game after losing 3 wickets in the morning. However, by the end of the evening, the Bangladeshi bowlers brought Cheteshwar Pujara and Akshar Patel back to the hosts to some extent.
On Wednesday in Chattogram, Team India won the toss and decided to bat. Shreyas Iyer returned unbeaten on a personal score of 82 runs at the stumps. Whereas, Akshar Patel got out after scoring 14 runs on the last ball of the day. He was lbw by Mehdi Hasan Miraj.
Before Akshar, Test specialist batsman Cheteshwar Pujara (90) was bowled by Taijul Islam. Pujara could not score a century in 51 innings. Earlier, Rishabh Pant (46 runs), Shubman Gill (20 runs), captain KL Rahul (22 runs), and Virat Kohli (1 run) lost their wickets. Taijul Islam took 3 wickets from Bangladesh. Mehdi Hasan Miraj took 2 wickets.
Indian innings partnerships
- Pujara-Iyer: 149 runs for the 5th wicket
Pujara shared a 149-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer for the 5th wicket. Pujara scored his 34th half-century. While Shreyas Iyer is close to his second century. He has completed his fourth Test half-century. - Pant-Pujara: Fourth wicket, 64 runs
Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara shared a 64-run partnership for the fourth wicket. After losing three wickets at 48, both tried to handle the Indian innings and scored 112 runs. - Gill-Rahul: First wicket, 41 runs
Captain KL Rahul and Shubman Gill shared a 41-run partnership to start the Indian innings. Both were easily scoring runs. That’s why Gill was caught.
First session: Domination of Bangladeshi bowlers The hosts dominated the game in the first session. By lunch, India had lost three wickets to score 85 runs in 26 overs. The top-3 batsmen of the team were dismissed and returned to the pavilion.
Captain KL Rahul 22, Shubman Gill 20, and Virat Kohli, who came to start the innings, got out after scoring 1 run. Taijul Islam took 2 wickets for Bangladesh in this session. While Khalid Ahmed got one wicket.
Second session: Strong comeback of Indian batsmen India scored 174 runs for 4 wickets till tea break. Indian batsmen made a strong comeback in this session. He added 89 runs. However, the team also suffered a setback. Rishabh Pant got out after scoring 46 runs. After lunch, India started playing with a score of 85/3.
Third session: Pujara-Akshar’s wicket fell in the last over Shreyas Iyer and Pujara shared a good partnership at the beginning of the session, but before the end of the day’s play, Pujara was shown the way to the pavilion by Taijul Islam and Akshar by Mehdi Hasan Miraj.
This is how the wickets of Team India fell
- First: Shubman Gill (20) was trying to steal a single from the direction of the short leg by sweeping the ball of Taijul Islam. But, the ball pitches up with the top edge of the bat and is caught by Yasir.
- Second: KL Rahul returned to the pavilion after making (22). He was bowled on the long ball of Khalid Ahmed. Khalid’s ball took an inside edge of Rahul’s bat and hit the stumps.
- Third: Virat Kohli was LBW on Taijul Islam’s ball. The umpire raised his finger. But, Kohli took the review after discussing it with Pujara. But the decision did not change.
- Fourth: Rishabh Pant was bowled by Mehdi Hasan Miraj. Pant missed the half-century.
- Fifth: Taijul Islam bowled in front of the leg. Pujara wanted to defend. The ball turned and hit the wicket.
- Sixth: Mehidy Hasan bowled the ball on a good length. Akshar goes to defend on the front foot. But, missed and the ball hit the pad.
