Team India trampled the English team by 10 wickets in the first match of the 3 ODI series. This is the first time in 48 years that India has defeated the host Britishers by 10 wickets. India played an ODI for the first time in 1974 against England. The visitors elected to bowl first after winning the toss and restricted the host to 110 in 25.2 overs. Thanks to a career-best performance by Jasprit Bumrah (19/6) to help India to restrict them in that low total. This is the Britishers’ lowest score against India so far.
Jaspreet also became the best Indian bowler to bowl in an ODI against England. Jaspreet Bumrah broke Ashish Nehra’s 19-year-old record. In the 2003 World Cup, Nehra took 6/23 against them. In the chase, team India won the match by scoring 114 runs in 18.4 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored the highest unbeaten 76 in 58 balls. While Shikhar Dhawan scored 31 runs unbeaten in 54 balls. Rohit smashed 7 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. Sharma’s strike rate was 131.
Fast bowlers took all 10 wickets for India for 2nd time in Indian cricket history
This happened only for the second time for Indian cricket in the ODI format when all the 10 wickets were got by the fast bowlers. Earlier this happened against host Bangladesh in Mirpur 2014. In Mirpur, Stuart Binny took 6 and Mohit Sharma took 4 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah turned the in first 10 overs
In his very first over, Jaspreet sent two England batsmen to the pavilion. First, he bowled Jason Roy. After that, he took the wicket of Joe Root who came to bat at number-3. Joe Root could not even open his account and got caught by Rishabh Pant. After the dismissal of both, Ben Stokes came on the pitch, but Mohammed Shami sent him to the pavilion as well. Ben Stokes also got out at duck.
