India is almost out of Asia Cup 2022 Under Skipper Rohit Sharma : Sri Lanka defeated India in a thrilling match to reach the finals. India lost to Pakistan in the same on Sunday in Super 4. On Tuesday, India set a good target of 173 on board for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka managed to clinch victory by chasing the total with one ball to spare. Kusal Mendis was the top scorer with 57 runs followed by Pathum Nissanka’s 52 runs.
The Sri Lankan Run chase was looking strong as India failed to take wickets. In the first half of the second innings, Sri Lanka was 97 without any loss of wicket.
For India, Yuzvendra Chahal broke the momentum, and Ravichandran Ashwin supported with another wicket.
During the 1st innings, Sri Lanka dismissed Indian opener KL Rahul and Virat Kohli early. Rohit Sharma took his time and scored 72 runs off 41 runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 34 runs.
In addition, Middle order and finishers got out early and could not convert the innings into a 190+ score. After Rohit and Surya, Indian batsmen lost back-to-back wickets reaching a total of 173/8 runs to Defend.
India had a replay of the Pakistan match against Sri Lanka
In return, Sri Lanka put strong domination in the first half by saving their wickets till the 10th over. India took 4 wickets in the form of Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Pathum Nissanka.
Later in the 19th over, 22 required off 12 balls. Rohit handed the ball to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He conceded 15 runs in the 19th over. Consequently, it left only 7 runs for Arshdeep to defend in the final over. However, he did not disappoint. Just like the match against Pakistan, he took the game 2 runs off 2 balls. But Sri Lanka managed to score runs with 1 ball remaining to clinch victory like Pakistan.
