Chopra, who had previously won the Diamond League trophy, defeated a star-studded field to take first place in the season-opening first round with a best throw of 88.67 meters.
Neeraj Chopra won the first leg of his Diamond League title defense, but the Olympic javelin thrower promised to push himself harder in the upcoming competitions this season.
At the Qatar Sports Club on Friday night, Chopra, who had previously won the 2022 Diamond League final trophy, defeated a star-studded field to win the season-opening first round with a best throw of 88.67 meters.
Chopra stated, “It was a very difficult win, but I’m happy, it’s a really good start for me.”
According to the governing body, Chopra will compete on June 27 at the Ostrava Golden Spike event, which is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold level meet in the Czech Republic. Antalya, Turkey, is Chopra’s current training facility.
Chopra’s fourth-best throw came on his first attempt, making it his best throw. The Olympic boss had adequate help as his countrymen emerged to cheer him.
The throws were quite subpar in comparison to last year when both Peters and Vadlejch sent the spear beyond 90 meters.
Despite a quality field that included the likes of Grenada’s Anderson Peters and the Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Chopra had even recognized the standing of Doha giving 90m in addition to tosses during the pre-occasion question and answer session on Thursday.
But the javelin had a hard time going far on Friday because of a strong headwind.
“I’m still pleased with my result, despite the fact that it was challenging for all athletes. The atmosphere is superb.
With a modest best throw of 85.88 meters, Peters finished third, having previously won the competition with a monster throw of 93.07 meters.
Because the finest men were present, Peters said, “I was hoping for a tailwind because the wind was a little strong.
