When Australia’s great Brett Lee issues a strong warning to Rohit Sharma and co., urging them to remain wary of a potential threat, he sees a glimmer of hope.
In the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, India defeated Australia by significant margins, with both matches concluding well within three days.
Australia has lost the trophy for the fourth time in a row after losing in Nagpur and New Delhi. Their disastrous performance shows that they can only hope for a miracle to make a comeback against the powerful Indians.
However, the great Australian Brett Lee sees a glimmer of hope when he issues a strong warning to Rohit Sharma and co., urging them to remain wary of a potential threat.
Lee praised newcomer Todd Murphy, who has been Australia’s only positive on the tour thus far, in an interview on his YouTube channel.
Murphy made his debut against India in Nagpur and took a record seven wickets in the first innings, albeit in defeat.
Murphy was hailed as the true successor to Nathan Lyon, the team’s primary spinner in the red-ball format, by the former Australia pacer.
“After Nathan Lyon, who? They appear to have found their solution in superstar off-spinner Todd Murphy, a young 22-year-old. What an incredible beginning for Australia.
Lee claimed that Todd Murphy “made the world sit up and take notice” despite Australia’s crushing defeat.
Lee brought up Murphy’s seven-wicket haul, which included top format batters like Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli.
He scored 7/124 in Australia’s one and only innings. KL Rahul, Ravi Ashwin, Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ravi Jadeja took five wickets. What a sensational debut.
He did so while he was in Nagpur, in front of his family. Lee continued, “I expect him to do better in abrasive conditions in India.”
Then, the former Australian cricketer issued a warning to both India and the rest of the world to be on the lookout for the young spinner.
He faces a lot of challenging series. We should check whether he has it or not. I sincerely hope that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be the only beginning of an epic career for the benefit of Australian cricket. India, beware! Lee said.
