India against Sri Lanka
IND At the first one-day international, playing 11 for Sri Lanka. India will play Sri Lanka in a one-day international (ODI) series of three matches after claiming victory in the Twenty20 international series 2-1. The inaugural One-Day International match will take place on January 10 in Guwahati. The second and third one-day international matches are scheduled to take place on January 12 and 15, respectively. Every match will get under way at 1:30 p.m. IST. Both nations will begin their preparations for the One-Day International World Cup later this year with the commencement of the ODI series.
Shubman Gill.
In the press conference held before the first one-day international, skipper Rohit Sharma announced that Shubman Gill would be given the nod ahead of Ishan Kishan in the batting order. The reason for this preference is Gill’s consistent performance in one-day internationals in 2022. The right-handed batsman finished with 638 runs from 12 one-day internationals, averaging 70.89 over the course of his career.
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli will go back up to the number three spot after his comeback. The previous captain of the Indian one-day international team was a member of the Indian squad that competed against Bangladesh. He played in 11 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) last year and scored 302 runs, including his 44th ODI century. It would be to Kohli’s advantage to rack up some massive runs against Sri Lanka. After a difficult wait of two years, he eventually scored a century in an ODI in 2022.
Shreyas Iyer.
Iyer scored 724 runs in one-day internationals for India in 2022, averaging 55 runs per game over 17 matches. During the one-day international series against Bangladesh, he had two scores of 80 or higher. He will take the fourth spot in the lineup. In 2022, he scored more over 400 runs throughout both Tests and Twenty20 Internationals. Iyer’s goal for the year 2023 is to maintain the strong form he has shown in recent years.
KL Rahul
The batting position for Rahul will be number five. He bats higher up the order in tests and Twenty20 internationals than he does in one-day internationals, when he is often used in the middle of the order. In the year 2022, Rahul struggled throughout all forms of the game.
In One-Day Internationals, he played 10 matches and scored 261 runs. His scores in his most recent five One-Day Internationals are 1, 30, 73, 14, and 8. In light of his recent record in Twenty20 International cricket, the BCCI has already sent him a stern warning. In the absence of Kishan, Rahul will maintain wickets for India in the first one-day international as well.
Hardik Pandya
The all-rounder Hardik Pandya will bat in the sixth position in the lineup. During the Twenty20 Internationals, he took the captaincy, while in the One-Day Internationals, he is Rohit’s deputy. During the Twenty20 International series played against Sri Lanka, he had two wickets and scored 45 runs. Pandya was selected as the vice-captain of the One-Day International team despite the inclusion of KL Rahul in the team.
Axar Patel
During the Twenty20 International series played against Sri Lanka, the left-handed all-rounder ended up scoring the third-most runs. 117 runs were scored by him, and he also took three wickets. He played in eight one-day internationals in 2022 and finished with 168 runs scored and 10 wickets taken. Since last year, Axar has made the most of his opportunity in all of the different formats, which is due to the absence of Ravindra Jadeja.
