IND vs. SL:
The Indian squad is riding high following their successful conclusion to the Test series against Bangladesh, which they won 2-0. It is now time to get everyone together, refocus, and get to work on objective 2023, which is the all-important ODI World Cup that will be staged in India. Following the conclusion of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022, the men in blue will have the daunting challenge of preparing for the World Cup and bringing home the cherished World Cup trophy for the first time in 12 years.
Sri Lanka will be in India to play three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals when the new year begins. The opening game of the series is scheduled to take place on January 3rd, 2023. The Indian cricket governing body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has not yet revealed the team that will face the reigning winners of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka. According to the information that has been gathered, there is a good chance that the team will be disclosed on December 27, 2022. It is interesting to note that the selection committee that was disbanded following team India’s disastrous performance at the T20 World Cup in 2022 and was managed by Chetan Sharma has been tasked with choosing the team that would compete in the forthcoming series. It’s possible that this is the reason why a new selection committee hasn’t been assembled yet.
Will Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja return?
According to a few rumours, Jasprit Bumra and Ravindra Jadeja are reportedly getting closer to match fitness, and it’s possible that they may return for this series. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) is the only organisation that can make a decision about this issue, and they will be the ones to have the last word. If the NCA decides to provide them with fitness certifications, then they will unquestionably have a place in the grand scheme of things. After the Twenty20 World Cup, the way things have shaken out suggests that Hardik Pandya should be given the opportunity to lead the team as captain. The BCCI has not yet determined how they would proceed with Rohit Sharma’s participation in the series; it will be fascinating to watch what decision they make in this regard. After suffering a serious injury to his left thumb during the second One-Day International match against Bangladesh, Rohit was unable to participate in any of the Test matches that were played against the same opponents. There is currently no new information available, either on Rohit or his ailment.
It’s possible that Hardik Pandya may take over as captain of the T20 regular team.
Following the dismissal of Chetan Sharma as chairman of the selection committee, the rumour mills were set fire with the suspicion that the BCCI is considering Pandya for the position of Twenty20 International captain. The Twenty20 World Cup will return in 2024 for its next iteration, and the BCCI most likely already has some ideas about how to best prepare for it. Hardik Pandya ascended up the ranks when his franchise, the Gujarat Titans, won the first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) under his leadership. Given the current state of affairs, it is very certain that the Indian Twenty20 squad would undergo a significant number of personnel changes in the near future.
