On the first of the year, Sunday, Aaron Finch, the captain of the Australian limited-overs team, became the second player in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL) to reach 3000 runs. The 36-year-old hitter became the second battery to attain this milestone, following in the footsteps of the powerful opener, Chris Lynn.
Finch reached the landmark during match number 24 of the Big Bash League, which took place at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. The match was between the Melbourne Renegades and the Perth Scorchers. Before the game, the right-handed hitter was 12 runs short of hitting the milestone, but she comfortably exceeded it after the game.
Chris Lynn
Chris Lynn, a BBL icon who once played for the Brisbane Heat, has inked a deal to play for the Adelaide Strikers in the current season of the Big Bash League. Lynn is the player who has scored the most runs in the history of the sport. He has done so in a total of 108 games, averaging 34.17 runs per game and having a strike rate of 148.83.
After the Renegades won the toss and decided to bat first, Finch stepped to the crease at number 4 after the Renegades had already lost two wickets against the Scorchers at the beginning of the match. They have been restricted to 9/2 in two overs thanks to the dismissals of Nic Maddinson and Martin Guptill by left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff and by Jhye Richardson, respectively.
The Renegades’ innings got off to a strong start thanks to Finch, who scored 12 runs in the fourth over delivered by Richardson. The right-hander blasted the quick bowler for three fours, and with the third four of his over, they had achieved 3000 runs.
After he had scored 65 runs throughout his innings, including six fours and two sixes, Andrew Tye bowled him out. His scoring included six fours and two sixes. Will Sutherland and Akeal Hosein were two key contributors in the Renegades’ innings, which resulted in a decent total of 155 runs despite losing six wickets.
During the current season of the Big Bash League (BBL)
The right-handed hitter has been outstanding, scoring 236 runs at an average of 47.2. With his 65 against the Scorchers earlier today, he now holds the record for the most scores of 50 or more in the BBL. At Docklands, the Renegades were victorious over the Sydney Thunder by a score of four wickets, and he was recognised as the Player of the Match for his unbroken score of 70 runs off of 43 balls.
