Even though Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League. Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting wants the India wicketkeeper to sit next to him in the dugout during the 2023 IPL.
Pant is recuperating from a terrible car accident that happened on December 29. He is expected to be out of action for nearly a year, so he probably won’t play in the IPL.
But in a strange request, Ponting wants Pant to stay with DC while the Capitals look for someone to take over as captain and wicketkeeper. Pant is physically allowed to do so, of course.
Simply put, you cannot replace those individuals. Players believe that they grow on trees. On The ICC Review Show, Ponting stated, “We’ve got to look at – and we already are evaluating – a replacement to come into the squad, a wicketkeeper-batsman.”
Being captain, he is a cultural leader in the group. What we all love most about him is his positive attitude, infectious smile, and laugh. I want him to sit next to me in the dugout every day of the week if he can actually travel and be around the team.
When we meet in Delhi in the middle of March to begin our camps and other activities. I will absolutely ensure that if he is able to be there, I want him there the entire time.”
Pant was traveling from Delhi to Roorkee when he was involved in an accident with his car. The wicketkeeper batter was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was then transferred to the Max Hospital in Dehradun.
After that, Pant was flown by air to Mumbai. Where he underwent three successful surgeries to repair all three of his knee’s crucial ligaments.
In addition, Pant is anticipated to be out of action for the majority of 2023. Despite the fact that his return has not been determined.
Pant is expected to be released soon, according to reports. His rehabilitation will begin, which could take anywhere from two to four months.
One of Pant’s most outspoken supporters, Ponting, revealed that he recently spoke with the India player and hopes he returns to action as soon as possible.
“I told him on the phone the last few days that I absolutely love the guy. Everyone, including him, went through a horrifying and extremely frightening time.
He is a truly infectious young man who still has the world. At his feet and is loved by all who know him. Therefore, we will keep our fingers crossed and hope that he can resume playing as soon as possible,” Ponting continued.
