Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, wants the T20I side to focus on being more adaptable in order to produce consistent results in the format. The seasoned all-rounder was commenting after Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan 2-0 at home in the series.
Bangladesh lost the ODI series 1-2 in the middle of the controversy surrounding Tamim Iqbal’s retirement saga. They did, however, bounce back effectively to defeat Afghanistan in both T20Is.
Speaking after his side’s outstanding performance, Shakib stated that while the squad performed well to defeat Afghanistan in T20Is, they still need to improve their versatility in the format.
The 36-year-old added detail:
“Flexibility is advantageous to the team. A number seven in T20s may be required to perform the same duties as openers. He could have to bowl the following five over as well if the openers bat for 15 overs. If everyone can bat everywhere, they won’t have any trouble adapting when faced with a challenging circumstance. The same holds true for bowlers who compete in various settings.”
Shakib also said:
We have five or six bowlers, and our objective is to make things simple for the batsmen, so we always aim to do that. With our current lineup, pacers and spinners are engaging in healthy competition, which is advantageous for the team.
On Sunday, July 16, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets (using the DLS technique). They chased down the mark in 16.1 overs while restricting the opponents to 116/7 in 17 overs.
The Asia Cup will give us a huge confidence boost – Captain Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib reflected on the T20I series victory against Afghanistan and said it gave him more confidence going into the Asia Cup.
The man said:
Around 80 to 90 percent of the cricketers from this T20 group will play in ODIs, which gives us a great confidence boost before the Asia Cup.
Shakib continued, adding:
“The majority of the players on this team are either World Cup or Asia Cup veterans. Two to four guys come and leave, but the process is ongoing. However, we are still a long way from finding the ideal combo.”
From August 31 to September 17, the 2023 Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
