Chelsea has ordered a waitlist of three expected supervisors to supplant flow manager Graham Potter, should the need emerge, as per Football Insider. The Blues have a backup plan in place in the event that Potter is unable to turn things around at Stamford Bridge, despite their willingness to keep him despite the team’s poor recent performance.
The Chelsea board has named Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, and Zinedine Zidane as potential replacement managers. However, the club is fully aware of the difficulty in securing a top managerial target in the middle of the season.
In the wake of supplanting Thomas Tuchel in September, Potter at first made a great beginning to his residency at Chelsea. However, the team’s form has drastically deteriorated, and the club has not won any of its last six games. Throughout that time, the Blues have only managed to score one goal.
The report from Football Insider says that Potter wants to use a new tactical system at Chelsea, giving new roles to Ben Chilwell and Reece James. Potter will be hoping for a positive outcome in their Premier League matchup with Leeds United on Saturday (4 March) given the increasing pressure to improve the situation.
The Blues’ management is aware that, despite Pochettino, Enrique, and Zidane’s availability, they may have difficulty recruiting an elite coach without Champions League qualification. The team is currently 14 points behind Tottenham, which is in fourth place in the Premier League. As a result, failing to place in the top four this season seems more likely.
Tony Cascarino claims that Chelsea’s Mason Mount isn’t fast enough for the wing:
Tony Cascarino, a football analyst, has questioned whether Mason Mount can play as a winger because he thinks he doesn’t have enough speed. Cascarino elaborated in an interview with TalkSPORT (via ChelseaChronicle):
He doesn’t really have the speed to be a complete winger. That never seemed like Mason’s best position to me. He always needs to play behind forwards, in my opinion. He has an excellent eye for the goal.”
“One of his greatest strengths is that he hasn’t done that as frequently this year as he did last year. He can fit in places, finds a little bit of time, and finishes things well. The Englishman, who is well-known for his adaptability, has played a significant role at Stamford Bridge recently. He has scored 33 objectives in 192 appearances across contests for the west London outfit.
