Australia maintained their lead in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table with a comprehensive 10-wicket victory against the West Indies in the opening Test at the Adelaide Oval on Friday, January 19.
The West Indies started their second innings on Day 3 at 73/6 and were bowled out for 120.
With only 26 runs needed to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, the Australians scored in 6.4 overs.
Usman Khawaja retired injured after nine overs, while Steven Smith (11*) and Marnus Labuschagne (1*) remained at the bat when the winning runs arrived.
Australia currently has 66 points in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings following the dominating victory.
They have won six, lost two, and drawn one of their nine Test matches, with a point percentage 61.11.
The West Indies, on the other hand, are in seventh place after three matches, having lost two and drawn one.
They have four points to their name and a PCT of 11.11.
Australia controlled the first Test of the series in Adelaide from beginning to end.
After winning the toss, they bowled first and dismissed West Indies for 188, with Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins each taking four wickets.
Travis Head hammered 119 off 134, and the hosts answered with 283.
In their second innings, the Windies were bowled out for 120 in 35.2 overs, with bowler Hazlewood taking 5/35.
Australia easily won a minor pursuit.
Shamar Joseph, making his debut for the West Indies, performed admirably.
After hitting a brave 36 with the bat, he removed Smith with his first delivery in Test cricket and concluded with 5/94 in Australia’s opening innings.
India ranked second in the World Test Championship points standings
India presently ranks second in the World Test Championship points standings.
They have played four matches and won two of them.
They now have 26 points and a PCT of 54.16.
Rohit Sharma and his team will try to score some important points during their forthcoming five-match Test series at home against England.
The first Test will occur on January 25 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh have 12 points apiece, with a PCT of 50.
