Here you will be able to know the ICC World Cup 2023: ICC New Rules – What Happens If Rain Comes and Match Called Off? Let’s have a Look.
The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 got underway in India on Thursday as England faced New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The ongoing mega event will be held in a round-robin format, with all the teams playing a total of 9 matches against each other. After that, the top four teams with the most points will advance to the semi-finals.
All the playing teams will take part in 9 matches each and they will have to win at least 7 matches to keep themselves in a safe position as rain will also play an important role as it happened in the previous practice games.
What Happens If Rain Comes and Match Called Off?
If a game is abandoned due to rain, qualification will depend on the net run rate of the team. All the teams participating in the World Cup have to ensure that they not only win the matches but also win by a good margin. Cricket’s governing body ICC has issued guidelines that the minimum length of the boundary line will be 70 meters. The ICC has also advised all curators to prepare the tracks with more grass to avoid the effect of dew.
As per the ICC New Rules, the boundary count will be ignored and if the game ends in a draw in the Super Over, the teams will continue to play the Super Over until a winner is decided.
ICC’s second newly introduced rule has eliminated the soft signal as now the on-field umpire can take the initial decision before consulting the third umpire. Earlier, the procedure was that if the third umpire failed to find conclusive evidence to overrule his decision, the on-field umpire’s decision stood.
The Men in Blue Army, led by Rohit Sharma, will face their first match against five-time champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 8. The upcoming match is of great importance for Team India as they would like to start their campaign on a strong note.
