ICC Women’s T20 World Cup – Qualifications, Performances, Results, Records, and Player Awards
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was called the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 until 2019. It is held every two years and is the international championship for women’s Twenty20 cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC), which is in charge of the sport, arranges the event. The first one took place in England in 2009. Eight squads participated in the first three tournaments, but that number went up to ten, starting with the 2014 event.
In July 2022, the ICC said that the 2024 tournament would be held in Bangladesh and that the 2026 tournament would be held in England. In 2026, there will be twelve teams instead of ten. At each tournament, a certain number of teams automatically qualify, and the World Twenty20 Qualifier is used to pick the rest of the teams. Australia is the best team because they have won the tournament five times.
Qualifications
The ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier and the international rankings for the ICC Women’s Twenty20 decide who gets to play. Before 2014, the top six teams in the ICC Women’s Twenty20 International rankings at the time of the draw determined six of the teams. The other two teams were chosen through a qualification process. In the 2014 tournament, the top eight teams in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings got six spots. The host country and three qualifiers got the other three spots. From 2016 on, the top eight teams in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings got seven spots in the tournament. The host country and two qualifiers also got spots.
