ICC Announces Venue For World Test Championship 2023, 2025 Final: The International Cricket Council (ICC) stated on Tuesday that the World Test Championship finals would be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London in 2023 and 2025.
Due to COVID-19, the WTC final was moved from Ageas Bowl, Southampton to Lord’s in 2021, where New Zealand defeated India to become the inaugural WTC winners.
“The IBC Board approved Lord’s Cricket Ground as the host venue for the ICC World Test Championship Finals in 2023 and 2025,” the ICC said in a statement.
Previously, former India cricketer and former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was appointed as a current player representative to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Cricket Committee.
Aside from them, Roger Harper, a former West Indian cricketer, has been nominated as the second previous player representative.
“Daniel Vettori and VVS Laxman have also been selected as current player representatives to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, while Roger Harper has been appointed as the second former player representative, joining Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena,” the ICC said.
This was not England’s only piece of good news in terms of hosting ICC events. It was also agreed that the creators of cricket will host the Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time in 2026. It is the first time the event has been contested in the UK since the first edition in 2009, when England defeated New Zealand in the final at Lord’s.
The ICC also confirmed the host countries for the next major ICC women’s events, with India hosting the showpiece 50-over World Cup in 2025.
India will host the next ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025, while Sri Lanka will host the ICC Women’s T20 Champions Trophy in 2027, should they qualify for the event.
For the second time, Bangladesh will host the Women’s T20 World Cup.
