Boxing is a sport in which Mr. Martinez has a rich background and experience. The post of President of the North American Boxing Association (NABA) was one that he had inherited from the late Anibal Miramontes, who was the Chairman of the IBF Ratings Committee. In the year 2000, he became a member of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
During his twenty years of service to the WBA, Martinez held positions on both the Directorate and the Ranking Committee. In 2004, he was responsible for organizing female boxing for the WBA, during which time he also oversaw the Female Championship Committee and created rankings. He was appointed to the position of Championship Chairman for the WBA in the year 2016. After another two years, in 2018, he was given the post of Ranking Chairman, which he remained in until October of 2020 when he resigned from his position with the WBA. Martinez continued to serve as managing President of the NABA up to recent times.
Vice-Chairman
In addition to this, IBF Board Member Ben Keilty will be taking on the role of Vice-Chairman of the IBF Ratings Committee and will be directly responsible for the oversight of the Female Ratings. Mr. Keilty has significant expertise in boxing, having served as a judge for 265 bouts between the years 2008 and 2015. In 2010, he became a member of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), and three years later, in 2015, he was promoted to the position of Supervisor for the IBF Pan Pacific Region. Since then, he has presided over 65 championship bouts. In 2018, during the organization’s convention that took place in Saint Vincent, Italy, Keilty was chosen to serve on the Board of Directors of the IBF.
The International Boxing Federation (IBF) is excited about the potential contributions that these two gentlemen, who have a wealth of expertise between them, will make to the Rating Committee of the organization. IBF President Daryl Peoples made the following observation on George and Ben: “Both George and Ben are extremely enthusiastic and knowledgable about boxing.” Due to the fact that I served as Chairman of the IBF Ratings Committee for a number of years, I have a tremendous deal of respect for what they are going to accomplish and what they will bring to the table.
These two gentlemen are dedicated to their new jobs and intend to continue producing ratings that are both reliable and objective, which will contribute to the ongoing success of the IBF.
