Christopher Roger Woakes is an English cricketer who was born on March 2, 1989, and plays for England in all formats on the international stage.
He plays for Warwickshire in domestic cricket and has played in several Twenty20 leagues, including the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals.
Chris Woakes has discussed his decision to withdraw from the upcoming IPL season. Woakes stated that he wanted to keep himself prepared for the England cricket team’s strong summer.
Chris Woakes, an all-rounder, said he wanted to prepare for a strong summer with England, so he decided not to play in the next IPL season.
The IPL 2023 Auction is scheduled to take place on December 23 in Kochi, but Woakes won’t be there. Throughout his IPL career, Woakes played for Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kolkata Knightriders. He has participated in 21 games and has taken 30 wickets.
It wasn’t an easy decision: Chris woakes
The primary reason the all-rounder will not participate in the upcoming season has now been made public.
According to Cricinfo, Woakes stated that he wanted to prepare himself for a successful summer with the England team, but that it wasn’t an easy decision to skip the IPL. The 33-year-old stated that he did not wish to make the decision solely based on financial considerations.
By no means was it an easy choice. I still wish I could go because the IPL is a great tournament and could be very financially rewarding, but I didn’t want to base my decision solely on money.
It’s a difficult situation: Having recently won the World Cup, the stock may be high. I might have been the next on the list after some of the other players who are likely to succeed.
“I had conversations with numerous individuals, some of whom were franchisees, who sounded eager, which made it harder to leave. However, having not played any cricket in the English summer last year, it’s a decent chance for me to get myself in a position for, ideally, a truly impressive summer with Britain,” said Woakes.
Woakes also said that Robert Key, the managing director of the ECB, helped him make the decision.
Woakes added, “Obviously I needed to get myself fit, and get my knee right.” “He [Rob] was very clear that I was still a part of the Test plans.”
