During the second one-day international against New Zealand, India captain Rohit Sharma confronted Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj for refusing to step aside and allow other bowlers to bowl.
In Saturday’s second one-day international against Sri Lanka, Indian pacers destroyed the hosts by a meager 108 runs. Mohammed Shami was the best bowler, taking three wickets and scoring 18 runs.
Mohammed Siraj also played well with the new ball, taking one wicket and scoring just 10 runs in six overs. In bowling-friendly conditions, the two wanted to keep testing the Kiwi batters, but skipper Rohit Sharma had to push them away.
Shami and Siraj were said to be eager to continue their efforts given the assistance that pacers were receiving in the middle, but Rohit intervened and decided to give the ball to other bowlers.
Rohit acknowledged during the ceremony for the post-match presentation that he was forced to intervene because Siraj and Shami were unwilling to do so.
“They (Shami and Siraj) were eager to continue bowling long spells, but I reminded them that a Test series against Australia at home is also coming up, so we need to take care of ourselves as well.”
He stated, “I need to step in, draw the line, and say, “boss, there are other bowlers as well.”
Indian bowlers received a lot of praise from the captain of India for their performance in the match.
He stated: I thought the bowlers had really improved over the last five games. They have fulfilled every requirement we have placed on them. doing this, especially in India.
These performances are not typical of India, but they do have real skills. It moved around and had good carry when we trained here last night.
He stated, “We trained yesterday and the ball was nipping around under lights,” when discussing the victory and the game plan for the second ODI.
We were aware that pursuing them would have been difficult if they had 250 or more, but that was the point of our decision to pursue them.
Since we batted first in the previous game, the goal was to test ourselves. I’m not sure what I’ll do in the final game at Indore.
It’s encouraging to see the group’s high level of self-assurance.” India has an unstoppable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the second ODI.
