Brad Hogg’s, a former Australia spinner, praised Stuart Broad for his career-long ability to speak up on crucial matters as and when necessary.
After a thrilling 2-2 draw in the fifth Test of the 2023 Ashes series and some heated cricket, Broad said goodbye to the game. He has consistently been one of the most outspoken players for England throughout the years, and his actions and remarks have frequently irritated the Australian fan base.
By claiming that the 2021–22 Ashes, which England had just lost 4-0, were effectively null and void due to Covid regulations, the veteran pacemaker had infuriated the Men in Yellow. Even in his last game as a player, he shocked the Australians with their “bail switch” tactic to claim his last career wicket.
Hogg thinks that more athletes should express their opinions like Broad did. On his YouTube page, he stated:
“Broad speaks up his thoughts when there is a problem, and I really respect that. I believe that athletes should be free to express their opinions. It’s fantastic that Khawaja does it too.”
Hogg also discussed the remarkable manner in which Broad ended his playing career. Added him:
“I can’t believe someone ended their batting career with a six and took two important wickets to assist the team cross the finish line. I adore his desire to participate in the competition. He does all in his power to get under the skin of the opposition, but more importantly, I adore his mentality towards the game.
England was bowled out for 395 early on Day 5 after Broad smashed a six off his final pitch as a batsman and continued to be undefeated. He miraculously took the final two wickets to secure England’s victory by 49 runs and tie the series at two games each.
Brad Hogg’s on Zak Crawley: “I thought he was going to be the weak link going into the series”
In the 2023 Ashes, England’s opening player Zak Crawley led his team in runs scored. In nine innings, he scored 480 runs, including an exquisite century in the fourth Test at Manchester’s Old Trafford. The right-handed batter faced much criticism in the past, but things have changed under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum for the Test side.
Hogg congratulated Usman Khawaja and Crawley for their achievements in the 2023 Ashes. He stated:
“Khawaja was a master at the plate. He played with patience and in a different manner than England. He was ready to take the plate for a while. I anticipated Crawley to be the weak link in the series coming into it, but he was simply brilliant. With Crawley, Australia played too defensively early in the series.
With 496 runs in 10 innings, Khawaja led the series in run production. Since Matthew Elliott in 1997, he scored the most runs for an Australian opening hitter in England.
