Hugo Houle wiki: Hugo Houle is a Canadian professional cyclist who currently competes for UCI World Team Israel–Premier Tech. In 1990, on the 27th of September, he was born.
Career
Houle was born in Sainte-Perpétue, Centre-du-Québec, Quebec. He and his brother started racing triathlons when they were 10 years old, but he focused on cycling when he was 16 years old. Then, he met former pro cyclist Louis Garneau, who put him in touch with a team and gave him equipment for training. Between 2008 and 2010, Houle rode his bike and went to college in Québec to get his degree. After he graduated, he got his first job with the Canadian team SpiderTech–C10. Houle won both the overall and a stage of the Tour de Québec while riding for SpiderTech–C10. He also came in third at the Canadian National Time Trial Championships in 2012, and he came in fourth at the UCI Road World Championships in 2012 in the under-23 road race.
AG2R La Mondiale (2013–17)
At the end of the 2012 season, SpiderTech–C10 broke up, and Houle joined the French pro team Ag2r–La Mondiale. He took part in the Giro d’Italia twice and the Vuelta a Espaa once during this time. In 2015, he also won the Pan American Games time trial and the Canadian National Time Trial Championships. In 2016, he was officially named among the Olympic team Canada.
Astana (2018–21)
In 2018, Houle became the first Canadian to sign with the Astana team. He competed in the race at Tour de France for the first time in 2019. In September 2019, he made a deal with Astana that would last until 2022. He was Canada’s representative at the Summer Olympics in 2020.
Israel Start-Up Nation
Even though Houle had a contract with the Astana Qazaqstan Team through the 2022 season, he left the team and signed a three-year deal with the Israel–Premier Tech team.
Personal life
Pierrick Houle, Houle’s brother, was hit and murdered by a drunk motorist in 2012. Since then, Houle has given money to Operation Red Nose, a charity that tries to stop people from driving drunk on the roads. In addition, Houle gave his Stage 16 Tour de France win in 2022 to his brother.
