Aakash Chopra has questioned the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for paying a high price for Rilee Rossouw in the IPL 2024 auction, even though he may not play regularly for them.
PBKS paid ₹8 crore for Rossouw during the auction last year.
They bought eight players for ₹24.95 crore, including Harshal Patel (₹11.75 crore) and Chris Woakes (₹4.20 crore).
Chopra expressed doubts about the Punjab Kings’ decision to acquire Rossouw in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
He reasoned (5:20) that they first let Rilee Rossouw leave but eventually broke the bank for him. A pretty intriguing choice.
He had an unusually excellent knock last year, but it was just against them.
It was a match versus Delhi, Rilee Rossouw was batting, and Harpreet Brar was given the 20th over.
Rilee destroyed him, therefore they presumably retained him since he can’t hit their teammates if he’s on the team.
Rilee Rossouw for eight crores: how will they accommodate him?
Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Nathan Ellis, Kagiso Rabada, and Sam Curran will all struggle to find room for him, according to the former India opener.
Chopra believes Chris Woakes will be ineffective for PBKS in their current conditions, pointing out that the England all-rounder will provide little advantages or rewards in Mohali.
They needed a mate for Arshdeep – Aakash Chopra on Punjab Kings’ signing of Harshal Patel
According to Aakash Chopra (4:15), the Punjab Kings want an Indian seam-bowling partner for Arshdeep Singh, as their current fast bowlers are all from outside.
So they wanted a partner for Arshdeep who could assist in the death overs or with the new ball.
The cricketer-turned-commentator noted that PBKS was prepared to pay an expensive fee to obtain Harshal Patel.
Although I like their foreign additions, Rabada and Nathan Ellis, it’s not ethical to push them to play with Sam Curran.
They paid 11.75 crores for Harshal Patel.
They were determined, stating that they would pay whatever it took to have this guy.
The Punjab Kings outbid the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants for Harshal’s services.
Apart from Rossouw, Woakes, and Harshal, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team purchased Ashutosh Sharma, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, Shashank Singh, Tanay Thyagarajan, and Prince Choudhary during the auction.
